Kingiseppsky District, Administrative district in Leningrad Oblast, Russia.
Kingiseppsky District is an administrative district in southwestern Leningrad Oblast covering approximately 2,900 square kilometers. The terrain is flat with elevations up to around 150 meters and includes both mainland and several islands in the Gulf of Finland.
The district was established in 1927 and is based on territory surrounding Yam Fortress, which was built starting in 1384 to protect borders. This early fortification shows how important this western region was for the area's historical development.
The district preserves important monuments like Ivangorod Fortress and Saint Catherine Cathedral, which shape the landscape and tell stories of a long past. These buildings are places where visitors can directly experience history.
The A180 highway and the Saint Petersburg-Tallinn railway line run through the district and connect it to larger cities. The flat landscape and good transportation connections make reaching the main sights relatively straightforward.
The district extends to several islands in the Gulf of Finland, including Gogland and Moshchny, which give its territory a maritime dimension. These island areas form an interesting contrast to the mainly flat mainland.
