Central Federal District, Federal district in European Russia.

The Central Federal District spreads across much of western Russia and includes Moscow, the surrounding areas, and several other regions extending to the borders of other federal districts. This territory combines the busy center with smaller cities, villages, and wide landscapes shaped by forests, rivers, and agricultural land.

This federal district was created in May 2000 to build a new administrative structure for the region. The founding changed the way the government worked with different territories across western Russia.

Moscow leads an arts scene that visitors experience through theaters, concert halls, and street galleries in every neighborhood. The other regions celebrate their own traditions through festivals, craft markets, and local food that shows Russian variety on the plate.

Travelers can reach the region through Moscow and continue by train or bus to other territories from there. Most connections pass through or around the capital, making route planning easier.

This territory holds the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, one of the largest magnetic deviations on Earth. Compasses behave strangely here, and the ground beneath contains huge deposits of iron ore that cause the magnetism.
