Ostrogozhsk is a town in Voronezh Oblast that stretches along the Tikhaya Sosna River. The settlement sits at an elevation of about 110 meters and spans roughly 22 square kilometers.
The town was founded in 1652 by Russian military commander Fedor Arsenyev as a fortress settlement. Originally, around 2,000 people from the Chernigov and Nezhin regiments made up its population.
The town holds strong ties to painter Ivan Kramskoi, whose artworks and historical documents appear in local exhibitions. Visitors can discover the artistic legacy of this important figure in Russian art history here.
