Novyi Svit, Resort settlement in Sudak Municipality, Crimea

Novyi Svit is a coastal settlement in Sudak Municipality on the Crimean peninsula, spread across several bays with sandy shorelines. The area sits at the base of forested mountain slopes crossed by paved paths and switchbacks leading inland.

A Russian nobleman founded a winery here in the late 1800s and planted vines following French techniques. After the 1917 revolution, the Soviet state took over the operation and expanded it into a center for sparkling wine.

The settlement draws its character from winemaking traditions introduced over a century ago, which still shape local crafts and employment. A small cultural center displays props and photographs from Soviet film productions shot along the coastal cliffs.

Coastal paths and trails leading to vineyard terraces are mostly paved or graveled and suited to short walks. The visitor center and tunnel open at limited times, so asking locally beforehand helps avoid a wasted trip.

A hand-carved tunnel from the 1800s cuts through a cliff near the beach and now serves as a wine cellar. The interior stays nearly constant in temperature year-round, holding thousands of bottles in natural conditions.
