Olginka, human settlement in Tuapsinsky District, Krasnodar Krai, Russia
Olginka is a small village on the Black Sea coast in the Krasnodar region. It stretches about 3.5 kilometers into the mountains and is shaped by the Tu River, which forms a shallow bay surrounded by two capes with pine and juniper trees and low rocky cliffs. The pebble beach runs for about a kilometer with deep, clear water suitable for swimming. A waterfront promenade lines the shoreline with hotels, restaurants, and attractions including a crocodile farm and water park.
Founded in 1864, Olginka began as a coastal garrison for the Shapsug regiment monitoring the Caucasus shoreline. The village later transformed into a seaside resort for rest and recovery, and during the Soviet era large sanatoriums were built, continuing to attract visitors today.
The village takes its name from Princess Olga, wife of Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov, a notable figure in the Caucasus region. Today, locals and visitors gather along the waterfront promenade in the evenings, walking and dining at cafes where fresh seafood and simple dishes are shared in a relaxed, friendly setting.
The village is accessible by car, bus, or train, with the nearest airport at Krasnodar about 140 kilometers away. Visitors should arrive in the warmer months of June through August when weather is ideal for beach activities, and it is wise to book accommodation in advance as the area is popular during summer.
A surprising feature is the small crocodile farm located near the center, where visitors can observe bred reptiles in controlled enclosures. This unusual attraction blends with the otherwise quiet beach setting and offers travelers an unexpected activity beyond typical coastal offerings.
