Cueva Bolshaya Fanagoriskaya

Cueva Bolshaya Fanagoriskaya is a cave system in the Goryachiy Klyuch district featuring several spacious chambers with yellow and white clay-covered walls. A notable stalagmite formation blocks the main passage and requires climbing skills to traverse.

Turkish traveler Evliya Celebi first documented the cave in 1666, marking the beginning of its recorded exploration. Later, it became a pilgrimage destination during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the cave received numerous pilgrims who used the space for prayers and offerings.

The best time to visit is spring and autumn when conditions are most comfortable. Bring sturdy footwear and a jacket since the interior remains cool throughout the year.

An underground stream flows through the cave, shifting between barely noticeable and clearly visible depending on the season. This changing feature makes each visit feel different.
