The reserve extends across 881,238 hectares of mountains, alpine meadows, and coniferous forests along Lake Teletskoye's eastern shore in southern Siberia.
The Russian government established this protected area in 1932 after scientific expeditions confirmed the need to preserve the region's natural resources.
Local Altai people maintain traditional connections to the reserve's lands through ceremonies, customs, and practices passed down through generations.
Visitors need administrative permission to enter the reserve, which offers guided tours through marked paths between July and September.
The reserve contains 343 bird species, 68 mammal species, and 1,500 plant species, including rare specimens like the snow leopard and Siberian ibex.
