Poltavskaya, human settlement in Krasnoarmeysky District, Krasnodar Krai, Russia
Poltavskaya is a small settlement in Russia's Krasnodar region, situated beside the Poltavsky eyrik river. The terrain is flat and surrounded by rice fields where farmers grow their crops.
The settlement was founded in 1794 by Cossacks from the Poltava region who chose to settle there. In 1932, it was briefly renamed Krasnoarmeyskaya and most residents were relocated to the Ural region, before the original name was restored in 1994.
The settlement was named after Poltava in Ukraine, where the Cossacks who founded it came from. Locals preserve this connection through stories and traditions they pass down, keeping their historical roots alive in community memory.
The settlement is relatively flat and easy to explore on foot, with the surrounding rice fields providing good orientation points. The Poltavsky eyrik river and Poltavskaya train station are key locations for finding your way and understanding the area.
Poltavskaya train station connects the settlement to other areas via a line running between Crimea and the town of Timashevsk. This rail connection has significantly shaped the economic development of the area and makes the settlement important to the region.
