Tlyaratinsky District

Tlyaratinsky District is a municipal area in western Dagestan with mountainous terrain and numerous small settlements spread throughout. The region sits at the edge of the North Caucasus where diverse communities have developed across the valleys and highlands.

The district was established in 1926 as an administrative structure within the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic during the Soviet reorganization period. This formation reflected the administrative changes taking place across the Caucasus region at that time.

The district contains eighty-nine rural localities organized into seventeen selsoviets, maintaining traditional agricultural practices and local customs of the region.

The area features mountainous terrain, so visitors should prepare for uneven ground and changing elevations throughout their visit. The warmer months offer the most practical conditions for traveling through the region's landscape.

Boxer Sultan Ibragimov, a heavyweight world champion, comes from this mountain district and stands as one of the most notable individuals to originate here. His success in international boxing brought global attention to this remote region.
