Vorobyovy Gory, Metro station on the Sokolnicheskaya Line in Moscow, Russia.
Vorobyovy Gory is a metro station on the Sokolnicheskaya Line positioned beneath the Luzhnetskiy Metro Bridge, stretching across the Moskva River. The platform extends along the lower level of the bridge structure, with windows along its length offering views of the water and banks below.
The station opened in 1959 as part of the Sokolnicheskaya Line and closed in 1983 due to structural concerns about the bridge. It reopened in 2002 following extensive repairs, and in 1999 it was renamed from Leninskiye Gory to its current name.
The name comes from Vorobyovy Gory, meaning Sparrow Hills, the ridge above where the station sits beneath the ground. It serves as the main access point to Moscow State University and the Luzhniki Stadium, both located on the heights above.
Two vestibule entrances connect passengers to both sides of the Moskva River and provide access to surrounding green spaces and the ridge above. The station sits around 15 meters above the river level, so arriving and departing involves climbing stairs or using elevators.
Unlike most other Moscow metro stations, this one features large windows running the length of the platform. Passengers waiting for trains can look out and down at the river and surrounding landscape instead of facing blank tunnel walls.
