Crimean Atomic Energy Station, Abandoned nuclear power plant in Shcholkine, Crimea.
The Crimean Atomic Energy Station stands near Kazantyp Cape with multiple concrete structures and an unfinished reactor chamber near the Aqtas Lake shore. The complex includes various building remains at different stages of deterioration and abandonment.
Construction started in 1975 with Soviet investment, but was halted in 1989 following concerns about geological instability triggered by the Chernobyl disaster. The project never resumed after these safety assessments.
The empty buildings here hosted the KaZantip electronic music festival from 1993 to 1999, drawing thousands of participants to its concrete halls for electronic music events.
The site is under private ownership and access is restricted for safety reasons. Visitors should verify current conditions before attempting to visit, as the facility contains hazards and is not open to the public.
Metal scavengers have systematically stripped the facility over decades, transforming the industrial complex into empty concrete shells. Only the bare structures remain as remnants of its former technical function.
