The Kremlin Wall Necropolis extends along the eastern wall of the Moscow Kremlin, containing individual tombs and dedicated spaces for cremated remains within the wall.
The cemetery began in November 1917 with the burial of 240 individuals who lost their lives during the Moscow Bolshevik Uprising against provisional government forces.
The burial ground transformed into the main national cemetery of the Soviet Union, reserved for leaders, military commanders, cosmonauts, and distinguished scientists.
Visitors can access the necropolis through Red Square, where they can observe the graves, monuments, and permanent honor guards maintaining the ceremonial atmosphere.
The final burial at this location occurred in March 1985 with the funeral of Konstantin Chernenko, marking the end of a 68-year tradition.
