Parco etnoculturale Suvar, Ethnic cultural park in Cheboksary, Russia
Suvar Ethnocultural Park sits along the left bank of the Volga River and displays around 120 wooden sculptures divided into separate zones. Each carved figure is crafted from oak and portrays figures from local traditions.
The park was established in 1993 through the artistic vision of a local sculptor who wanted to preserve his region's mythological traditions. Since then, it has grown as a place where new works are continuously added.
The wooden figures here represent central characters from Chuvash mythology and show how local traditions continue to influence the community today. When you walk through, you can see how these old beliefs shape the way people understand their identity.
The park is free to visit and best explored on foot to take in each section at your own pace. The best time to go is during daylight hours when good weather makes the wooden figures and river valley clearly visible.
Every year local artists gather in the park to create new works together while keeping ancient carving traditions alive. These gatherings show that the mythological craft is not a dead art form but one that continues to evolve.
