Chersky Peak, Mountain summit in Slyudyansky District, Russia.
Chersky Peak is a mountain summit in the Komarinsky Range of Khamar-Daban, rising to 2,090 meters in elevation with a prominence of 352 meters. The exposed position offers far-reaching views across the surrounding mountain landscape and the lake-dotted terrain below on clear days.
The peak was named after Jan Czerski, a Polish explorer who devoted his life to studying Lake Baikal from 1845 to 1892. His extensive fieldwork contributed greatly to understanding the geography and geology of this Siberian region.
The peak carries both a Russian and Buryat name, with the Buryat people calling it Khara-Boldog in their native language. This dual naming reflects the long history of different peoples who have inhabited this region.
The summit trail maintains a T3 difficulty rating and requires mountaineering experience as well as proper equipment for a successful ascent. Visitors should prepare for changeable conditions and allow adequate time to plan their approach to the top.
Lake Serdtse sits beneath the southern slopes of the peak, forming a striking geographical feature within this mountain formation. This hidden water body remains overlooked by most visitors, adding an unexpected element to the landscape.
