Доходный дом князя А. Г. Гагарина

The Prince A. G. Gagarin rental house is a four-story stone building with a striking double-height window above its entrance arch, decorated with griffin sculptures and Mercury staff motifs. The facade displays neoclassical features with carefully crafted architectural details.

The building began as private property in 1742 under I. I. Velyaminov-Zernov and underwent significant transformation in the 1880s. During this renovation, it was reshaped into Prince A. G. Gagarin's rental house while retaining earlier structural elements.

In the 1830s and 1840s, a bookstore with a reading room occupied part of the building where writers and intellectuals gathered to discuss literature. The space served as a social hub for people interested in books and literary conversations.

The building is located on Kuznetsky Most Street in Meshchansky District and has undergone comprehensive recent restoration. The facade, windows, and internal systems were updated while preserving historical features.

The building preserves chambers and structural elements from the 18th and early 19th centuries hidden beneath later additions. These older layers tell the story of multiple building periods layered within the same structure.
