Ivanovskie ozyora is a group of four mountain lakes in the highlands of the Republic of Khakassia, Russia, situated between two prominent peaks. The lakes are connected to each other by waterfalls, forming a linked water system set within the mountain terrain.
The lakes formed through geological processes common in limestone areas and were later designated as a protected nature monument. That designation placed the area under official protection to preserve its natural features.
In winter, the area draws skiers and hikers from across the region who come to move through the mountain landscape on foot or on skis. In summer, visitors arrive for trekking and swimming, giving the place a different rhythm with each season.
The area is most easily reached through organized tours that depart from the Azhur base camp, where meals and gear are provided. The terrain is mountainous, so sturdy footwear is advisable, and conditions vary considerably between seasons.
The deepest of the four lakes holds floating chunks of ice throughout the year, as pieces break off from the frozen surface and drift across the water. This can be seen even in summer, when temperatures around the lake begin to rise.
