Kuznetsk Alatau Nature Reserve

Kuznetsk Alatau Nature Reserve is a protected mountain area in Kemerovo Oblast that stretches across three districts with mountain rivers, deep valleys, and glacial lakes. The landscape features rocky slopes, forested areas, and open ridges that create varied terrain for exploration.

This reserve was established in 1989 to protect mountain ecosystems from mining and logging operations. The designation marked a turning point for preserving a region facing intense industrial pressure.

The Environmental Center here serves as a learning space where visitors can explore exhibits about the mountains and wildlife while joining observation programs. Seasonal activities and family-friendly events help people connect with the landscape and its animals.

Visitors can use ten marked trails including river routes, snowmobile paths, and hiking tracks suited to different ability levels. It is important to prepare for mountainous terrain and bring appropriate gear depending on the season.

The area holds glaciers at surprisingly low elevations between 1,200 and 1,500 meters, which is remarkable for mountains in this southern latitude. These frozen landscapes allow visitors to observe Arctic terrain formations in a more moderate climate zone.
