Round Tower

The Round Tower is a medieval fortress structure in Vyborg with substantial stone walls of varying heights on different sides. Connected historically to adjacent fortifications through covered passages, it now serves visitors with a restaurant located at ground level.

The fortification was constructed in the mid-16th century by engineer Hans Bergen during a major upgrade of Castle Olafsborg's defenses. It represented an important step in adapting the fortress to newer military technologies and strategies of that era.

The tower stands as a landmark where cultural exchanges between different peoples left their mark on Vyborg's development. Visitors can sense how this fortress was more than military infrastructure, serving as a symbol of power and a meeting point between worlds.
