Lev Oshanin haykali

Lev Oshanin haykali is a bronze statue in Rybinsk showing the poet at full height, holding a book while gazing toward the Volga River. The figure stands on an observation platform overlooking the water, capturing him in a thoughtful pose.

The monument was unveiled on August 2, 2003, during Rybinsk's City Day celebrations and was created by sculptor Makhmud Nurmatov. It was produced at the city's Aviation Technology Academy, a site with scientific and cultural importance to the region.

The statue honors Lev Oshanin, whose songs became central to Soviet culture and remain widely known across Russia today. It stands in a location connected to the river that the poet himself celebrated in his most famous compositions.

The monument sits on a platform along the Volga embankment and is easily reached on foot from the city center. The location offers clear views of the river and is best visited during daytime when the statue's details are fully visible.

Students regularly polish the bronze shoes of the statue, following a local belief that touching them brings good fortune during exams. This practice has left the shoe surfaces shiny and worn from repeated contact over the years.
