Субашские источники, Natural spring near Feodosia, Russia and Ukraine
Subash Springs are a natural water source near Feodosia that emerges from underground aquifers. The water flows through the Subash River into Sivash Bay of the Azov Sea and supplies fresh drinking water to surrounding communities.
Before 1917, these springs belonged to the Aivazovsky family estate in the village of Aivazovskoye and supplied water to Feodosia. After the October Revolution, the spring's use and management shifted like many local resources in the region.
The springs take their name from the Subash River, which carries the water downstream, linking to centuries of water management in this region. For local people, the source remains a gathering place woven into daily life and community routines.
The water from these springs needs only minimal filtration and is easily accessible for direct use by visitors. The surrounding area is relatively natural and undeveloped, so follow local paths to reach the springs.
Scientific studies between 1984 and 1985 showed that the water quality is so high that it can be consumed without boiling. This finding made the springs a notable resource, as only simple mechanical filtration is needed.
