The fortress was built in 1780 and demolished by the Saudi government for commercial developments in 2002.

It played a significant role in the Ottoman era, serving as a strategic military location.

Today, the site is home to the Abraj Al-Bait Towers, one of the world's tallest buildings.

Despite its demolition, the fortress remains a symbol of cultural heritage for many.
