Stora Sjöfallet National Park

This 1,000 square kilometer park contains numerous mountain ridges, deep valleys, primeval pine forests, and the substantial Stora Sjöfallet waterfall dropping 40 meters.

Established in 1909 as one of Sweden's first national parks, this protected area forms part of the Laponia UNESCO World Heritage site.

The land maintains strong connections to Sami traditions, with indigenous communities continuing their ancestral practices of reindeer herding and fishing within the park boundaries.

The park offers marked hiking trails, designated camping areas, and opportunities for wildlife observation, though visitors need to bring their own supplies due to limited facilities.

The Akka mountain massif within the park, known as the Queen of Lapland, features prominently in Swedish literature through the children's story of Nils Holgersson.
