Vierranvárri, Mountain summit in Kebnekaise region, Sweden.
Vierranvárri sits between Duolbagorni and Giebmegáisi mountains with an elevation around 1700 meters (5575 feet), displaying wide stone fields and patches of lingering snow on its slopes. The summit forms a distinctive part of this mountain chain visible from neighboring peaks.
The earlier name Rullevare came from Swedish 'rulla' meaning scree and Sámi 'várri' referring to rocky slopes. This naming shows how both languages described the physical features of the mountain.
The name reflects Sámi language use in this part of Sweden, showing the deep roots of indigenous peoples in the mountain region.
Hikers on the western route to Giebmegáisi cross over this ridge before descending about 200 meters (650 feet) and ascending to the main massif. Allow extra time for this section as the ground surface changes frequently along the way.
Nepalese sherpas built stone steps on specific sections of the mountain trail to help climbers navigate steep areas. These constructed features remain visible today along the challenging parts of the route.
