Dag Hammarskjöldsleden

Dag Hammarskjöldsleden is a hiking trail spanning about 14 kilometers through mountainous northern Swedish terrain. It connects to major hiking networks including the King's Trail and Arctic Trail, passing through forests and open highland landscapes.

The trail takes its name from Dag Hammarskjöld, the second United Nations Secretary-General, who was known for his work in international diplomacy. The region itself has served for centuries as a passage route connecting northern communities and trade networks.

The trail passes through lands where indigenous Sámi people continue their reindeer herding practices as a core part of their way of life. Visitors walking here move through a landscape that holds deep cultural meaning for these communities today.

Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are essential, as conditions in this northern region vary considerably. Hikers should prepare for changing weather and bring adequate water and food supplies for the trek.

During summer months, hikers experience the midnight sun phenomenon, allowing them to trek for hours without darkness. This natural occurrence lets visitors explore the landscape at unusual times and gain entirely new perspectives on the surroundings.
