Royal National City Park

The Royal National City Park is a protected area spanning across three municipalities with forests, lakes, and green spaces interwoven throughout. It offers diverse landscapes and habitats to explore during a visit.

The area was once hunting grounds for the Swedish royal family and was protected by a parliamentary decision in 1995. This transformation created a new form of urban nature conservation in Sweden.

The park is accessible through multiple entry points and well-connected by public transportation including metro stations, buses, and seasonal boat services. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear since many paths wind through forests and along lakeshores.

It was the first protected area of its kind worldwide, established through specific legislation in the Swedish Environmental Code. This pioneering role made it a model for other countries developing urban nature conservation areas.
