Scaniaparken, Waterfront park in Västra Hamnen, Malmö, Sweden
Scaniaparken is a waterfront park in Västra Hamnen featuring grassy slopes, a walking promenade along the shore, and a wooden platform that extends into the bay. The waters below the platform reach depths of five meters, making it suitable for swimmers with experience.
This park developed in the early 1990s on land formerly part of the Kockum industrial zone that shaped the city's economy for generations. Subsequently, portions were allocated for the Bo01 housing exhibition, transforming the industrial waterfront into a public gathering space.
This waterfront area draws swimmers and sunbathers throughout the warmer months, with groups gathering for volleyball games and outdoor music events during the season. The beach and water are central to how locals spend their free time together.
The park has cafes for food and drinks, scattered benches for resting, and open access to the waterfront. Swimmers should be mindful that currents exist in these waters and experience is recommended before entering.
A wooden platform decorated with padlocks extends into the bay, raising visitors five meters above the water surface. This elevated walkway offers perspectives of the water from an unusual vantage point while visitors attach small tokens to the structure.
