Olof Palme International Center, International development organization in Stockholm, Sweden
The Olof Palme International Center is an international development organization based in Stockholm that works with 27 member groups from the Swedish labor movement. It coordinates projects and programs across the Balkans, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Southeast Asia.
The center was established in 1992 as a joint effort of the Swedish Social Democratic Party, the Trade Union Confederation, and the Cooperative Union to continue the international work of Olof Palme. It grew out of a desire to maintain Swedish engagement in global development after changes in government aid policies.
The center runs study circles and popular education programs that help local communities and social movements strengthen their own capacities. These activities reach participants across more than 50 countries and stay rooted in labor movement traditions.
The center welcomes visitors and those interested in learning more about international development work and social movement building. You can contact them directly in Stockholm to learn about their activities or explore ways to get involved with their network.
Every year the organization awards the Olof Palme Prize to individuals and groups working to advance human rights around the world. This recognition keeps alive the legacy of a former Swedish Prime Minister who was committed to social justice.
