Stortorget, Historic public square in Gamla Staden, Malmö, Sweden.
Stortorget spans approximately 27,000 square feet and serves as the largest and oldest public square in Malmö, featuring buildings from the Renaissance period and a central equestrian statue.
Established in 1540 on the former site of Heligands Monastery, the square hosted important peace negotiations in 1524 between Swedish King Gustav Vasa and Danish King Frederick I.
The square displays an 1896 bronze monument of King Karl X Gustav on horseback, commemorating his role in the 1658 Peace of Roskilde that transferred Skåne to Sweden.
The square is accessible year-round and features the Malmö City Hall from 1547, historic pharmacy Lejonet from 1571, and various dining establishments for visitors to explore.
Apoteket Lejonet pharmacy has operated continuously since 1571, and its current neo-Renaissance building from 1896 displays restored advertising paintings from around 1900 on its fire gable.
