Flemingska palatset, Baroque castle in Gamla Stan, Stockholm, Sweden

Flemingska palatset is a baroque palace building in central Stockholm's historic Gamla Stan district, spanning three floors with yellow plaster facades and copper roofing. The structure combines brick construction with classical architectural details and occupies a prominent location near Slottsbacken.

The palace was commissioned in the mid-1600s by Swedish statesman Erik Fleming and built under the direction of leading architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. The building represents the baroque architectural movement that took hold in Sweden's capital during that period.

The interior contains original furnishings from the 1700s, including decorated rooms that show how wealthy Stockholm residents lived during that era. Walking through the spaces gives a sense of daily life in the city's elite circles.

The building is easily reached on foot since it sits directly on Slottsbacken street in the heart of the old town, not far from the Royal Palace. Visitors can view the palace's exterior features from the street and explore the surrounding lanes.

The facade features rustication at the base and vertical pilasters that extend between the first and second floors, a hallmark of baroque design from that era. These details reveal the visual language that wealthy Swedish families used to display their status and taste.
