Royal Chapel, Baroque chapel in Gamla stan, Sweden
The Royal Chapel sits within Stockholm Palace as a baroque-style religious space with ornate architectural details throughout. Painted ceilings and decorated columns create a formal setting designed for worship and ceremonies.
Two prominent architects designed and completed this baroque space in the mid-18th century. Some furnishings came from an earlier chapel and were preserved before being moved to this location.
The chapel serves the Royal Parish, consisting of Royal Court employees and their families, while maintaining regular Sunday services open to all visitors.
This space is easy to find within the palace in the old town and is open to visitors daily. You can walk through without special arrangements, but should be respectful since it may occasionally serve religious purposes.
The original pew doors made by Georg Haupt survived the great fire of 1697 and were transferred from King Karl XI's previous palace chapel.
