Åre kabinbana, Cable car system in Åre, Sweden
The Åre cable car travels across roughly 3 kilometers and climbs about 850 meters in around seven minutes. The journey starts below Åre square and ends at a mountain station with dining facilities.
The project began in the 1970s to give more people access to the ski areas high on the mountain. Operations started in 1976 and shaped how Åre developed as a ski destination.
The mountain station hosts a café and restaurant where visitors gather to enjoy local food throughout the year. This place lets people experience how Scandinavian mountain communities come together around dining.
Cable cars depart regularly and each cabin holds a group of visitors comfortably. The entry point is near Åre square, making it convenient to reach from the town center below.
The system runs on two massive steel cables supported by tall pylons that tower over the landscape. This infrastructure operates reliably even during harsh winter conditions with heavy snow.
