Tantolundens luftvärnsställning, Military fortification in Södermalm district, Stockholm, Sweden.
Tantolundens luftvärnsställning is a military fortification in Södermalm that served as an anti-aircraft defense position. The installation contains four gun positions made of concrete and metal, positioned to protect the bridges across Lake Mälaren from air attack.
The position was built in 1939 to defend Stockholm with Bofors 40mm guns against air attacks. It remained operational until 1945 as part of the city's broader air defense system.
This installation reflects how Stockholm organized its air defense during the second world war. The city accepted military structures integrated into neighborhoods as a necessary measure for protection.
The site is located near walking paths in Södermalm and is easily accessible on foot when exploring the neighborhood. Visitors can view the concrete structures and gun positions from outside and understand the defensive position from different angles.
The position was equipped with two wheeled automatic cannons of the Bofors m/36 type, each requiring seven soldiers to operate. This specialized equipment was technologically advanced for its era and represented a significant investment in Sweden's air defense capabilities.
