Livgardets Kavallerikasern

Livgardets Kavallerikasern is a military complex with brick and granite buildings surrounding a large courtyard, along with five stable structures and an administration building at Lidingövägen 28. The facility houses around 75 horses maintained by the Swedish Armed Forces for military ceremonies, state visits, and National Day celebrations.

The complex was built between 1893 and 1898 by architect Erik Josephson and initially served as headquarters for different cavalry units, including Livgardet till häst until 1927. The buildings reflect architectural influences from the Vasa Renaissance period and represent the design ideals of that era.

The barracks serve as the starting point for the mounted guard ceremony that departs during summer months. This daily ritual connects the modern city with a longstanding military tradition that visitors can witness on Stockholm's streets.
