Nova Gorica

Nova Gorica is a town on the border with Italy, characterized by modernist architecture, wide avenues, and green areas designed according to 1940s urban planning principles. Its layout reflects a deliberate arrangement where squares, parks, and residential areas connect in an organized, orderly fashion.

The town was established in 1947 following the Paris Peace Treaty, which assigned the original town of Gorizia to Italian territory. This event prompted the creation of an entirely new settlement on the Slovenian side of the border.

The France Bevk Library and National Theatre serve as gathering places where exhibitions, performances, and local art regularly attract visitors and residents. These venues reflect how the city maintains its creative traditions while staying engaged with contemporary cultural conversations.

The QLandia shopping center is situated about 600 meters from City Hall and serves as the main retail hub for residents on both sides of the border. It remains easily accessible on foot from the city center and offers most essentials visitors and locals might need.

The Solkan Bridge spanning the Soča River holds the record for the longest stone arch among all railway bridges in the world. This early 20th-century engineering feat remains an impressive structure that visitors often overlook when exploring the area.
