Begunjščica, Mountain peak in Karawanks range, Slovenia
Begunjščica is a peak in the Karawanks range that rises to 2060 meters (6760 feet). The southern slopes are covered with grass, while the northern face features steep limestone walls.
The mountain has long served as a climbing destination for the Radovljica region. Roblekov dom mountain hut, built in 1961, honors Hugo Roblek, an early local mountaineer.
Many mountain huts across Begunjscica prepare traditional Slovenian dishes including jota, ricet, and curd cheese struklji for visiting hikers.
The climb is demanding and requires good fitness and steady footing on rocky sections. Sturdy footwear and weather protection are essential, as conditions can change rapidly.
On clear days, visitors can look toward the Alps from certain vantage points, a reminder of the mountain's position in the broader alpine landscape. This view becomes especially clear in afternoon light.
