Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare

The Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare is a specialized training facility in Bohinjska Bela that focuses on military operations in mountainous terrain and high altitudes. The site includes extensive training grounds and equipment designed to prepare soldiers for harsh environmental conditions.

The facility was established in 2011 through a cooperation agreement between Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, and Italy. It was built upon the foundation of the Slovenian Military Mountain School created in 1996.

Military personnel from different NATO nations gather at the center to exchange knowledge and develop common approaches to mountain operations and combat techniques.

Visitors should prepare for cold and changing mountain conditions, as training takes place throughout the year. The location is remote and requires planning for access, situated in an isolated alpine region.

The center uses the natural mountain environment around it for realistic military training in snow and ice conditions. This setting allows soldiers to experience genuine alpine challenges during their preparation.
