Maribor Castle is a Renaissance and Baroque fortress in the city of Maribor featuring a grand stairway, a Loretto chapel on the southern side, and a northeastern bastion. The structure was purposefully designed for defense and continues to shape the city's appearance today.
In the early 1480s, Emperor Frederick III ordered construction of this fortress to strengthen the northeastern town walls of Maribor. Over the following centuries, the building was repeatedly modified and expanded to meet changing military needs.
The Festive Hall displays ceiling paintings from the 18th century showing battles between Christian and Turkish forces. These artworks reflect the artistic interests and historical concerns of that era.
