Zois Mansion, Baroque mansion in Ljubljana, Slovenia
The Zois Mansion stands along the Ljubljanica River bank, featuring a monumental stone portal from 1589 and a neoclassicist facade from 1798.
Between 1765 and 1805, the mansion grew through incorporation of five separate buildings, becoming the residence of Baron Sigmund Zois and his intellectual circle.
The mansion served as the central meeting place for Slovenian writers, poets, and scholars who contributed to the development of Slovenian literature and language.
The building contains a bronze bust of Sigmund Zois from 1993, an old fountain, and his tombstone etched into the courtyard wall.
The mansion housed the largest private library in the Austrian Empire, with over 2,700 titles and 240 Slovenian books by the early 19th century.
