Zois Mansion

The Zois Mansion stands on the Ljubljanica riverbank and combines architecture from different periods, with a monumental stone portal from the 16th century and a neoclassical facade from the late 18th century. Inside, visitors find an old fountain, a bronze bust, and inscriptions carved into the courtyard walls that mark the building's history.

The building took shape through the combination of five separate structures across the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This expansion allowed Baron Sigmund Zois to establish the estate as a center for his intellectual circle.

This mansion served as a gathering place where Slovenian writers, poets, and intellectuals came to exchange ideas and work on literary projects. The house became known as a center where the Slovenian language and literature were actively developed and discussed.

The mansion held one of the largest private libraries in the Austrian Empire, containing over 2,700 titles with a notable collection of early Slovenian publications. This collection was a rare treasure in its time and continues to attract the interest of literary scholars today.
