Križanke, Medieval monastery complex in Ljubljana, Slovenia
The Križanke site encompasses multiple courtyards, a Baroque church, an outdoor theater, and educational facilities within its historic stone walls.
The Teutonic Knights established this monastery in 1228, which underwent reconstruction in the 18th century following designs by Venetian architect Domenico Rossi.
The monastery transformation by architect Jože Plečnik in the 1950s created a main performance venue for the Ljubljana Festival with 1,400 seats.
The outdoor theatre features a retractable roof system and dedicated facilities for visitors with reduced mobility at Trg francoske revolucije 1.
The Devil's Courtyard section contains an illumination system that reproduces the appearance of stars across its ceiling during evening performances.
