Spiš Magura

Zipser Magura is a mountain range in the Eastern Carpathians with peaks around 1000 meters in elevation. The range spans across several valleys and is characterized by forested slopes that transition to meadows at lower elevations.

This mountain range was home to shepherds and loggers for centuries who shaped the landscape through their work. These economic activities left their mark on the current mix of forests and open areas across the massif.

Villages around this mountain range keep their craft traditions alive today. Visitors can still see traditional woodcarving and textile work in settlements below, skills passed down through families for centuries.

The best time for hiking is May through October when trails are clear of snow and daylight hours are longer. Good footwear and a map are important since some paths are less marked and the terrain can be demanding.

Natural mineral springs emerge from the rock face at several points along the eastern slope. These springs have a different mineral profile than famous spa springs elsewhere and are valued by locals for their properties.
