Chopok, Mountain peak in Low Tatra range, Slovakia.
Chopok is the third-highest mountain in the Low Tatra range, rising to 2024 meters with steep northern slopes dropping toward Demanovska valley. Modern gondola systems now connect both sides of the peak, creating a unified winter sports area across the mountain.
The peak was transformed in 2012 when modern gondola systems linked the northern side to the southern side, creating an integrated winter sports destination. This connection made both slopes of the mountain easily accessible to visitors.
The mountain sits along one of Europe's main hiking corridors and connects walkers through established paths with neighboring peaks. The route brings visitors through characteristic mountain landscapes that turn green in summer and snow-covered in winter.
A mountain cottage called Kamenna chata sits near the summit and serves as an emergency shelter and rest stop during the roughly eight-hour hike from Jasna. Visitors should expect changing weather conditions and steep stretches along the route.
The summit hosts Slovakia's highest weather station, recording temperatures throughout the year ranging from 18 degrees Celsius to minus 27 degrees. This instrument reveals the extreme climate conditions that exist at this elevation.
