Veľká kopa, Mountain summit in Prešov Region, Slovakia
Veľká kopa is a mountain summit in the High Tatras range, characterized by a distinctive grassy dome-shaped peak. The mountain rises to approximately 2,050 meters (6,725 feet) and forms a recognizable landmark within the alpine terrain.
The mountain first appeared in written records in 1670 and was later documented in Matej Bel's 1736 publication. These early mentions indicate the peak had gained recognition as a geographical feature worth recording.
Local shepherds from communities of Kokawa and Wychodna utilized the mountain slopes for sheep grazing before its designation as a protected area.
Access to this summit has been restricted since 1949 due to its location within a strictly protected zone of the national park. Visitors should check beforehand which routes are permitted and what regulations apply to movement in this sensitive conservation area.
The summit features five distinct ridges extending in different directions, connecting multiple alpine valleys. These ridge formations create a complex terrain pattern that contributes to the mountain's appeal for mountaineers.
