Nežabec, Mountain summit in Sobrance District, Slovakia.
Nežabec is a mountain in the Vihorlat range that reaches about 1023 meters above sea level with steep rock faces on its eastern and western sides. Dense beech forests cover the slopes and define much of the landscape you see when approaching the peak.
The mountain formed through intense volcanic activity about 15 million years ago during the late Tertiary period in eastern Slovakia. This ancient geological process created the distinct rock structures that define the peak you see today.
The protected landscape area of Vihorlat, including Nežabec, received national landmark status in April 1999, marking its environmental importance.
Marked hiking paths reach the summit from both Sobrance and Snina districts, passing through sections of beech forest along the way. The routes are accessible but be prepared for steep sections and changing weather conditions at higher elevations.
The Vihorlat range including this peak was designated a protected landscape area and received national landmark status in 1999, reflecting its ecological importance. This recognition helps safeguard the geological and natural features that make this mountain area distinctive.
