Magurica, Mountain summit in Laborec Highlands, Slovakia.
Magurica is a mountain summit in the Laborec Highlands rising above Snina. Its densely forested slopes are crossed by marked hiking paths that connect several valleys in the region.
A steel transmission tower was constructed on the summit in 1988, reshaping the mountaintop landscape. This infrastructure expanded broadcasting reach across northeastern Slovakia and surrounding areas.
The mountain serves northeastern Slovakia as a central communication point, transmitting regional programs through multiple FM stations including Radio Slovensko.
The summit is accessible via marked trails from the surrounding valleys, most of which run through forest. The best time to visit is during warmer months when the paths are less affected by snow and moisture.
The broadcasting installation transmits both local and national radio programs from its perch above the surrounding villages. Many hikers arrive unaware that the tower serves as a useful landmark visible from great distances through the forest.
