Ťatliakova chata, Mountain hut and restaurant in District of Tvrdošín, Slovakia
Ťatliakova chata is a wooden mountain hut and restaurant standing at 1393 meters above sea level in the Western Tatras, positioned near Ťatliakovo lake. The facility serves as a base for hikers exploring the surrounding mountain terrain.
The first shelter appeared in 1883, followed by construction starting in 1937 and completion in 1941, destruction in 1944 by Nazi forces, and post-war reconstruction. The site reflects the turbulent history of mountain settlements in this region.
The mountain hut serves traditional Slovak mountain cuisine using regional ingredients and keeps these culinary customs alive for visitors. Diners can taste dishes that reflect the local food heritage of the region.
The mountain hut is reachable on foot from Zuberec via marked trails through Brestová and Zverovka, requiring approximately 90 minutes of walking. Visitors should prepare for changing mountain weather and varying trail conditions, especially when planning longer routes.
The facility operates seasonally from June through September and closes during winter months when snow covers the trails. During its open season, visitors can access multiple alpine lakes including the Roháčské lakes and mountain passes like Rákoň and Smutné.
