Toubab Dialaw, Coastal village in Petite Côte, Senegal

Toubab Dialaw is a village on the Petite Côte of Senegal, stretching along the southern coast between ochre cliffs and rocky outcrops. Local fishermen work the shoreline daily, while the settlement features modest dwellings and simple structures that conform to the natural terrain.

El Hadj Omar Tall, founder of the Toucouleur Empire, created a freshwater spring on the beach that became essential to the local population. This source shaped early settlement patterns and made the site a vital stop for travelers and herders crossing the region.

The École des Sables is an international dance center founded by Germaine Acogny in 1998, teaching traditional and contemporary African dance forms. The school draws dancers and artists from around the world who come to develop their skills while engaging with local artistic traditions.

The village sits south of Dakar and is easiest to visit during the dry season from October through June when weather is stable. Travel is by coastal road, with lodging and meals readily available in the settlement and nearby areas.

The Sobo Bade Cultural Center was founded by Gerard Chenet in 1970 and combines architectural innovation with artistic expression on a promontory overlooking the ocean. The building stands out dramatically in the landscape and serves as a venue for cultural events and exhibitions that often go unnoticed by passing visitors.
