Al-Buzuriyah Souq

Al-Buzuriyah Souq is a covered trading market in the heart of old Damascus with hundreds of shops in winding lanes. The stalls sell spices, perfumes, dried fruits, soaps, and herbs alongside the active flow of other buyers and sellers.

The market developed during the medieval period as a central trading hub next to the Umayyad Mosque and grew over centuries. Its structures, including historic caravanserais like Khan As'ad Pasha, reflect the importance of this place for commerce in the ancient city.

Local merchants sell goods that have been recognized in Damascus for generations, especially laurel soap and regional spice blends. These products are closely tied to the city's daily life and are regularly purchased by residents.

The best way to reach it is through the connection to Medhat Pasha Souq or through entrances on the southern side of the Umayyad Mosque. Since it is a covered market, you can visit it in most seasons, although it tends to get very crowded during daytime hours.

The market has maintained its organized layout, with different product types concentrated in separate areas. Its architecture of narrow passages and stone vaults creates an environment that has remained virtually unchanged over centuries.
