Saraphi, Administrative district in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand
Saraphi is an administrative district in Chiang Mai Province consisting of twelve sub-districts organized into 105 villages throughout the northern mountainous region. The area sits at roughly 300 meters elevation and connects to neighboring districts including Hang Dong, Mueang Chiang Mai, San Kamphaeng, and Mueang Lamphun.
The district was founded in 1891 under the name Yang Noeng and received its current name Saraphi in 1927, derived from the Mammea siamensis trees found in the area. This renaming reflected administrative changes that shaped the region's local governance.
The district maintains traditional Thai administrative structures through tambons and mubans, organizing local governance at grassroots levels.
The district is easily accessible through regional road connections to neighboring areas and nearby towns. The mountainous terrain means some areas may be harder to reach depending on road conditions and travel season.
Wat Chedi Liam, one of the district's notable temples, sits near the archaeological site of Wiang Kum Kam, an ancient settlement with remains scattered throughout. Visitors can explore old structures and ruins within walking distance of each other in this historically layered area.
