Wat That Thong, Buddhist temple in Phra Khanong Nuea, Thailand
Wat That Thong is a Buddhist temple located next to Ekkamai BTS station on Sukhumvit Road, featuring a large pagoda that houses sacred Buddhist relics. The complex includes a main hall with a significant Buddha statue and several religious buildings arranged throughout the grounds.
The temple was created in 1937 from the merger of two older temples, Wat Na Phra That and Wat Thong Lang, both relocated due to Bangkok Port construction. This combination established a new religious site at its current location.
The temple received royal patronage in 2007 when Princess Galyani Vadhana granted it a new official emblem and special status. This recognition reflects its importance within the local Buddhist community.
The temple sits directly next to Ekkamai BTS station, making it easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should dress respectfully when entering, as it remains an active place of worship.
The ordination hall dates to 1947 and Limpaporn Vihara to 1971, both showcasing traditional Thai Buddhist building styles. These structures preserve construction methods and craftsmanship that are less common in newer temple buildings.
