Radès-La Goulette Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge over Lake of Tunis, Tunisia
The Radès-La Goulette Bridge is a concrete structure crossing Lake Tunis and linking two shorelines with a span of 260 meters. The roadway includes lanes for traffic in both directions, with shoulders on either side for safety and stopped vehicles.
The project arose from cooperation between Tunisian, Japanese, Egyptian, and French companies that worked together from 2004 to 2009. This international partnership brought expertise from multiple countries to build the lake crossing.
The bridge connects two communities across the water and has reshaped how people travel through the Tunis region daily. Residents rely on it as part of their everyday routines, creating a new rhythm for local transportation.
The bridge is most easily accessed from the mainland, with driving times varying by starting point. Traffic tends to be heavier during morning and evening rush periods, so traveling at quieter times allows for a smoother crossing.
The bridge was built with Japanese financing support, showing international development cooperation in North Africa. This model of cross-border partnership made possible a project that would have been difficult to achieve otherwise.
